Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Le succès de DSTOM a pris de court Pink Floyd qui a placé la barre bien haut. Plus rien n'est comme avant et son public devient très exigeant. Tout cela n'est pas propice aux innovations et expériences auxquelles nous avait habitué le Floyd. Le manque d'inspiration de WYWH est évident mais cela était prévisible. Le groupe pense alors très fort à Syd qui leur manque terriblement. Ce dernier fera d'ailleurs une apparition impromptue pendant les séances douloureuses d'enregistrement qualifiant le son d'un peu "vieillot"!

Les textes restent néanmoins toujours très puissants par la force évocatrice d'un Waters de plus en plus amère sur le monde moderne. Chacun regard un peu ailleurs, Masson produit l'excellent groupe Français Gong avec son album Shamal, Rock Bottom de Robert Wyatt, tandis que Gilmour produit Unicorn. Floyd traverse une période difficile mais le public attend encore beaucoup d'eux.

Paradoxalement WYWH est un chef d'oeuvre en soi,. bien sur la folie et la liberté d'antan ne sont plus là mais l'expérience et le savoir faire compensent une certaine froideur et distanciation. Le résultat est une pure merveille glacée teinté d'amertume et de cynisme. L'avantage est qu'il est plus facile d'accès que DSOTM.

WYWH débute avec une pièce d'anthologie "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" qui sera classée meilleur morceau du Floyd par ses fans. Wright y tisse une toile sonore extraordinaire par sa simplicité et son évidence que d'autres se chargeront de parodier plus tard. Gilmour apporte sa touche si caractéristique avec un phrasé de très haut niveau. Waters écrit des paroles d'une beauté émouvante par leur fragilité sous jacente :

"Rappel toi quand tu était jeune, tu brillais comme le soleil,
Brille, diamant fou,
Maintenant il y a un regard dans tes yeux, comme des trous noirs dans le ciel,
Tu as été pris dans les feux croisés de l'enfance et du vedettariat."

"Wish You Were Here" sera aussi un tube mondial et dénote un peu par son coté acoustique au milieu d'un album somme toute très électronique. C'est encore un hommage appuyé à Syd Barrett qui semble hanter la créativité du groupe.

Le reste de l'album, au demeurant excellent, manque de relief et décevra les fans. Heureusement son interprétation sur scène est beaucoup plus musclée et bien plus intéressante car on sent bien que sur scène le groupe est moins contraint par les impératifs de production en studio. Floyd est et reste avant tout un groupe de scène.
